PRK

⏺️PRK means Photorefractive Keratectomy and is a surgical procedure that involves the remodelling of the corneal surface with the purpose of erasing refractive defects such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The technique involves the removal of the epithelial tissue of the corneal surface, and afterwards, the remodelling of the superficial cornea by means of excimer laser. PRK laser photorefractive keratectomy is advised to correct visual impairments such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism of minor, medium and, rarely, high degree.

Preconditions for PRK:
▫️ Older than 18 years old
▫️ A steady refractive error (no major change over the last year)
▫️ Myopia dioptres between -1.00 and -12.00
▫️ Corneal anomalies not suitable for LASIK surgery
▫️ Pupils dimension > 6 mm
▫️ No moderate-serious dry eye sensation, ocular irregularity, cataract, allergies, degenerative and auto-immune diseases.

PRK technique advantages
▫️ Easy and fast procedure
▫️ Enables to save the eye’s ability of focusing things at different distances
▫️ Really good predictability of results
▫️ Surface anesthesia (eye drops)
▫️ Permanent correction of the visual impairment
▫️ No bandages needed
▫️ It does not require needles, knives or scalpels

FEMTOLASIK

⏺️Femtolasik is an innovative laser technique which is effective, precise, safe and painless. It uses two laser technologies (Femtosecond Laser and Excimer Laser) and a fully computerised and customised procedure, which improves the precision of the execution and, therefore, the quality of the visual result.
Femtolasik technique is used for the correction of myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia, by remodelling the corneal surface. It entails the creation of a corneal flap cut with an innovative Femtosecond laser to avoid using the scalpel. The cut flap allows the surgeon to enter the innermost part of the cornea, in order to correct the vision problem thanks to the excimer laser, and the flap will be subsequently replaced.

Preconditions for the FEMTOLASIK:
▫️Minimum age of 18 years
▫️Sufficient corneal thickness
▫️Steady vision problem for at least one year
▫️Adequate pupil width
▫️Good general and ocular health

What are the advantages of Femtolasik technique?
▫️ The procedure lasts a few seconds
▫️ Visual recovery is obtained in a few hours
▫️ Long-lasting correction of vision problems such as myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia
▫️ Painless procedure
▫️ No bandages needed
▫️ No needles, blades or scalpels of any kind needed
▫️ Wide range of application: it is recommended also in case of significant vision problems like high myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or very low corneal thickness
It is more delicate on the corneal tissue, since it prevents the temporary inflammatory reactions of the eye
▫️ Less side effects: moderate and brief postoperative ocular burn

Refractive surgery. What do we need to know?

⏺️After a thorough consultation, the ophthalmologist will determine whether or not you are a candidate for laser intervention and will propose the surgical technique recommended in your case.

⏺️The date of the intervention will be fixed together; after which we expect you on the day set in one of the Vista Vision clinics.

⏺️You will receive the recommendation to stop wearing contact lenses two weeks before the operation, if applicable.

⏺️On the day of the intervention, you will be given anesthesia with drops.

⏺️The actual operation lasts very little, on the order of a few minutes. Immediately after the operation you will notice a major improvement in vision.

⏺️Depending on the type of intervention, the recovery period can be from a few hours to a few weeks.

TO REMEMBER!
None of the laser techniques (PRK or FemtoLasik) require admission to the clinic, so the intervention is carried out in the ambulatory system.

In addition, thanks to cutting-edge technology:
▫️ the intervention does not require hospitalization
▫️ the intervention does not hurt
▫️anesthesia is done with drops
▫️ the risks are practically non-existent
▫️lasts very little
▫️provides a high quality of vision
▫️ensures a short recovery period
